The weather outside was frightful and the basketball inside wasn’t very pretty, either.
Dexter boys’ basketball coach Jason Rushton offered a theory for his team’s poor play on Tuesday night against visiting Pinckney.
“The excitement for a possible snow day (Wednesday) must have gotten to us because we forgot we had a game to play,” Rushton said. “Pinckney came to play.”
And the team that comes to play usually wins.
The host Pirates held the usually talented Dreadnaughts to just 33 points in a 45-33 victory in an SEC matchup. It was Dexter’s second straight loss after falling to Chelsea in overtime on Friday night.
Dexter led 11-8 after the first quarter but trailed 19-16 at halftime after scoring just five points in the second quarter. Each team scored 11 in the third quarter, but the Pirates went on a 15-6 run in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.
Sophomore Cal Bavineau hit two triples in the second half and finished with a team-best 10 points. Marco Lucchesi had nine points and Colin Parachek scored five in the loss.
Dexter hosts Monroe on March 3 in an SEC crossover game.
