Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts drop final regular-season game, head to Districts

It’s not exactly how the Dexter girls’ basketball team wanted to head into Districts but perhaps they got a bad game of their way. The Dreadnaughts played their final regulars season game on Friday at Bedford in an SEC crossover game and the Kicking Mules were not in a very welcoming mood.

Bedford, a very good team from the Red Division, jumped out early and never looked back in a 70-43 victory.

The Kicking Mules led 22-7 after the opening quarter. The Dreads outscored the hosts 14-13 in the second quarter but Bedford went on a 17-13 in the third to lock up the game.

Sydney Pnacek and Kylie Cabana each scored 11 to lead Dexter. Alayna Babut scored seven and Kaila Simpson scored five.

Dexter heads to Brighton for the Division 1 District 17 playoffs. The Dreadnaughts open play with Pinckney at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2. Dexter just defeated the Pirates 64-48 on Tuesday.

The winner of Dexter-Pinckney will face South Lyon East (12-7) in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.

The other side of the Brighton District has South Lyon (1-18) facing a very strong Brighton (17-2) team in the opener on Monday. The winner will play Skyline in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The finals will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 6. All the games are at Brighton High School.
