Changes implemented by Waste Management due to pandemic concerns

The City had a conference call where they were informed of service changes being implemented by Waste Management. A summary of those changes is provided below.

Yard Waste Collection

Due to staffing concerns caused by the pandemic, Waste Management will NOT be starting yard waste collection on Monday, April 6, 2020 as was scheduled. This service will be suspended indefinitely. To accommodate residents who have yard waste, the City will be providing the additional services outlined below, however due to our limited staffing we will need everyone’s cooperation for this to be successful.
– Brush chipping will continue to be provided on Wednesdays by City staff. Please stack any brush and sticks in neat piles at the curb for easy collection.
– The City will collect loose leaves on two dates – Friday, March 27, 2020 and Thursday, April 9, 2020. Please empty any yard waste bags that contain leaves at the curb. Only leaves can be collected by the equipment due to the requirements of the certified compost facility they are taken to. Sticks and other brush set out for chipping should be placed in piles away from the leaf piles.

If Waste Management has not resumed yard waste pick up by the time mowing season starts, grass should be mulched into the lawn.

Recycling

Waste Management will continue to pick up items in recycling containers. The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that the items are taken to is currently closed and it is unknown when it will reopen. Waste Management is trying to find another facility that will take the material. Residents can continue to place the materials in the recycle containers.

Bulk Item Pick-Up

The bulk item pick-up scheduled for April 6, 2020 has been cancelled. The next opportunity will be May 4, 2020 unless it is also necessary to cancel due to staffing issues. That decision will be made later in April.

Changes Moving Forward

This is an ever changing situation that is new to all of us. As changes are needed to the schedule above we will send out additional notices. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
