Transplant nephrologist from Dexter elected to National Kidney Foundation of Michigan Board

Dexter resident Silas Norman, MD, MPH has been elected to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) volunteer Board of Directors. Practicing at the University of Michigan (U-M), Dr. Norman is a board-certified transplant nephrologist, interim medical director for kidney and pancreas transplantation, and an associate professor at the medical school.

Dr. Norman studied medicine at Wayne State University, did his residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, and did his nephrology fellowship at U-M. He has worked closely with U-M to bring evidence-based programs to its patients. He has also served for over ten years on the NKFM Scientific Advisory Board, his last two years as the Chair. Currently, he is providing leadership on the NKFM’s large grants from the CDC and the National Council on Aging.

“Over the past 15 years, Dr. Norman has worked tirelessly to help those with and at risk of kidney disease,” said NKFM President and CEO, Linda Smith-Wheelock. “He has always supported our fundraisers and helped with grants. His deep understanding of the need for a population health approach to CKD prevention is critical to our work. His leadership on Michigan’s CKD Prevention Strategy was key to the NKFM receiving additional state dollars to serve hundreds of people at risk of CKD.”

The NKFM serves Michigan from its headquarters in Ann Arbor, and offices in Detroit and Grand Rapids.
