Michigan Tech Drone to inspect Dexter Area Museum belfry

Research staff from Michigan Tech are bringing a drone to inspect belfry of the Dexter Area Museum. Nina Rackham, the Museum’s Director, noticed rain water entering through the belfry, and contacted researchers at Michigan Tech Research Institute in Ann Arbor, to identify sources of leaks. The researchers have volunteered drone technology developed for roadway and bridge inspections. The inspection is scheduled for June 13.

The Dexter Area Historical Museum is housed in the former St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, built in 1883. The building was moved one block to the corner of Inverness and Fourth streets, to allow the construction of the current St. Andrew’s. In addition to numerous artifacts, the museum contains a large display area, a genealogical library, a local history library, and the Corner Gift Shop.
