Cross Country: Dreadnaughts split with Huron in dual-meet

Dexter took the top three spots in the girls’ race to defeat Huron 19-42 on Saturday at Hudson Mills Metropark. The River Rats won a close finish in the boys’ race with a 25-32 victory to earn a split.

On the girls side, Dexter junior Amanda McGill took first (20:28.4) followed by sophomore Chloe Sprague (21:24.5) and senior Abigail Fox (21:26.2) as the Dreadnaughts went gold-silver-bronze.
Huron sophomores Rachel Overgaard (21:43.9) and Mia Solomon (22:21.8) went four-five.

But the Dreadnaughts ran off with the next four spots: senior Faith Jones (22:23.7), sophomore Quinn Hilla (22:24.5), junior Hannah McComas (22:25.5) and junior Jessica Hoehn (22:28.0).

Huron freshman Sonya Shelgikar was 10th (22:29.4), freshman Sarah Conley ran 11th (22:40.8) and senior Rose Basch was 12th (22:53.5).

Dexter’s Kate Varitek was 13th (23:00.9) and Huron’s Verena Wu was 14th (23:05.1).

Dexter senior Conor Kolka ran first in the boys’ race with a time of 16:26.3.

Huron took the next two spots with seniors Michael Hill-Carruthers (16:50.8) and Donovan Smith (16:55.8). After Dexter senior Nathan Gariepy ran fourth in 16:58.2, Huron senior Peter Stenger was fifth (17:15.7) and sophomore Adam Hauser was seventh (17:29.3).

Dexter junior Adam Hauser was seventh (17:50.8) and sophomore Owen Ackerman was eighth (17:54.5).

The River Rats took the next three spots with seniors Roman Quesada (17:55.8), Calvin Shaw (17:57.8) and Koen Van Nieuwstadt (18:13.1).

Dexter senior John Harm was 12th (18:16.5) and freshman Sam Gibson was 13th (18:25.1). `
