Cross Country: Dexter goes to the finish line with rival Chelsea

The Dexter boys’ cross country team stayed with talented Chelsea at the head of the line but the Bulldogs depth proved too deep for the Dreadnaughts in an SEC dual-meet at Hudson Mills Metropark on Tuesday.

Chelsea held off Dexter 24-33 to earn the victory.

The seniors led the Dreadnaughts with three of the top six places in the race.

Dexter senior Conor Kolka was a very close second to Chelsea freshman Connell Alford. Kolka finished in 16:40.4 while Alford was a nose ahead in 16:40.2 – it doesn’t get much closer than that.

Dexter senior Nathan Gariepy was fourth in 16:57.5 while fellow senior Sam Melvin crossed in sixth place in 17:21.0.

The juniors were next up with Josh Lamb (10th, 18:11.7), Adam Hauser (11th, 18:15.1) and Zachary Sawin (13th, 18:24.6). Sophomore Owen Ackerman was 14th (18:27.1) and freshman Brandon Anderson was 16th (18:28.1).

Girls

Dexter’s Amanda McGill took first overall but the Dreadnaughts fell to rival Chelsea 22-34 in an SEC dual-meet at Hudson Mills. McGill, a junior, won easily with a time of 19:46.6. Chelsea’s Trilian King was second in 20:22.0.

Dexter sophomore Chloe Sprague had a strong race taking fifth overall in 20:55.7.

Senior Faith Jones was eighth (21:23.3), junior Hannah McComas was ninth (21:38.0), senior Abigail Fox was 11th (21:49.4), sophomore Megan O’Day was 13th (22:20.8) and junior Annissa Sisson was 14th (22:25.0).
