It was a big night for the Dexter swimming and diving team as the Dreadnaughts defeated visiting Jackson on Tuesday night by a score of 136-49 and also set a new pool record in diving and qualified two relays for the state finals.
Sophomore Lily Witte obliterated her pool and varsity records for six dives with a score of 318.25 points. The old records were 291.50 and 296.30 respectively.
“When she absolutely nailed her reverse 1 1/2 pike, I knew she was going to break 300 points, but 318 is mammoth,” said Dexter Coach Cory Bergen, who was thrilled to get both the 200 free and 400 relays qualified for states.
Dexter (4-0 overall, 3-0 SEC White) hosts Lincoln tonight (Oct. 8) for Senior Night.
The Dreadnaughts took the top three spots in diving – something they do quite often. After Witte’s amazing 318.25, fellow sophomore Vivian Kinnard scored 251.30 to take second while junior Elyssa Grossman took third with 236.30.
Dexter’s 200 free relay team of Lily Witte, Marea Balcom, Hailee Waters and Charlotte Schultz took first with a D-2 state-qualifying time of 1:44.68. Dexter took the top three spots in the 200 free relay. The team of Theresa Rutz, Emma Sortor, Maddy Matos and Dani Schulz was second in 1:50.84.
