Football: Parachek, Dreadnaughts prove they are better than their record

During the week, and before the Dexter football team took the home field against Lincoln on Friday night, quarterback Colin Parachek talked about how good this Dreadnaughts football team is – or at least can be.

Parachek suggested ignoring the 1-2 record. “We are better than our record,” he said with confidence and conviction in his voice.

It wasn’t exactly a Joe Namath in the Super Bowl prediction. But give the senior credit because he went out and backed it up. Boy, did he ever.

The senior put up numbers that Namath or Tom Brady for that matter would be jealous of in their prime. He completed 28 of 34 passes for 393 yards and five touchdowns. Yes, FIVE touchdowns in Dexter’s 49-19 win over the Railsplitters.

Dexter coach Phil Jacobs called it Parachek’s best game – and he’s had some big games behind center for the Dreadnaughts.

The game was actually close in the first quarter. After Dexter led 7-0, Lincoln scored to make it 7-6. But the Dreadnaughts would score four TDs in a row to take a 35-6 lead into halftime.

Dexter led 42-6 at one point and 49-12 after three quarters.

There were plenty of receivers who got into the action as Parachek spread the wealth around against the Lincoln secondary. Cal Bavineau continues to be a main target. The junior had seven catches for 93 yards and a score. Super sophomore Cole Cabana had eight catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Brennan Parachek, Colin’s sophomore brother, had four catches for 55 yards and a TD.

Wait, there is more.

Braeden Fuson grabbed three passes for 60 yards; Ty Rychener had two catches for 45 yards and a score; and Lucas Koone had two catches for 28 yards.

To go with his 74 receiving yards, Cabana also had 11 carries for 74 yards and a rushing TD. That’s 148 yards total offense and three trips into the end zone.

Colin Parachek had four carries for 28 yards and a rushing TD.

Dexter (2-2) looks to climb over .500 on Friday against visiting Jackson in an SEC game. The Vikings are 2-2 on the season after a 37-0 win over Adrian on Friday.
