Upcoming Fall Events at Dexter District Library

Tuesdays at 10:30 am, through Nov. 17
Virtual Fall Story Times
Fall Story Times for ages five and under will be offered on Tuesdays at 10:30 am on our DDL facebook page from September 15 to November 17.  Everyone is welcome to join Ms Krista for a fun morning of picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays and other activities that encourage a love of reading to your child.  Registration is not required.

Bi-weekly Thursdays at 11:00 am, through Nov. 19
Preschool Super Stories
Kids ages five and younger are invited to join Ms Krista this fall on our DDL facebook page every other Thursday at 11:00 am.  We will read a longer picture book and share an activity related to the book.  Everyone is welcome.  Future dates:  October 8, October 22, November 5 and November 19.

Bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 4:30 pm, through Nov. 11
Club Create
Kids in grades K through 2 are invited to join us on facebook, every other Wednesday at 4:30 pm beginning September 30.  Ms Krista will share fun challenges, activities and craft ideas that you can try at home.  She will also highlight a few new chapter books and readers.  Everyone is welcome.  Future dates:  October 14, October 28 and November 11.

All Star Readers Book Club
All Star Readers Book Club for grades 3 and 4 will meet again on Thursday, October 22  from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Registration is required and begins on September 24. The book we will be discussing is I Survived… by Lauren Tarshis. Books will be available for pick up when registration begins. Join us for a fun, lively afternoon with Ms Krista leading our discussion, everyone is welcome.  A link to our Zoom meeting room and a password will be sent to you prior to October 22.

Halloween Story Time
Join Ms Krista on our facebook page for a fun morning of picture books, flannel-board stories, songs, finger plays and other activities celebrating Halloween.  Geared for ages five and under but everyone is welcome.

Tuesday, October 27 from 4:00 to 4:30 pm
Tween Book Club
Join us for our fall book club for grades 5 and 6.  We’ll discuss the book The Adventurer’s Guide to Successful Escapes by Wade Albert White, pick book titles for future meetings, and do an optional craft.  Books and craft materials will be available for pickup through our curbside service.  Full details will be emailed to registered participants. Registration is required and begins October 1.   Zoom details will be sent one day prior to the Club.

The Spooktacular Halloween Comedy Show
Watch Silly Scientist Joel juggle eyeballs, get mixed up with multiplying bottles and be shocked by an animated Frankenstein drawing in this head spinning display of Halloween hootenanny.  You’ll even be illuminated by Joel’s far-out flashlight where he encourages Halloween safety.  A Zoom Magical Halloween adventure awaits in this exciting-not-scary show for all ages.  Registration is required at https://dexter.lib.mi.us/events/the-spooktacular-halloween-comedy-show/

Children’s Virtual Art Gallery
The Dexter District Library is happy to present our first ever Children’s Virtual Art Exhibit.  Young artists ages 12 and under are invited to create their masterpieces using art supplies available at home. The artwork can be any variety of subjects, from fall themes and landscapes, favorite books and characters, current events or pure abstraction. The exhibit will be featured on our website during the months of November and December. Submit your electronic masterpieces – along with your name, age and address – to cjurich@dexter.lib.mi.us.  Any child who submits a work of art by November 30 will receive a $5 gift card to A & W.

A Night of Family Baking with Zee the Cook
Get the entire family together in the kitchen for a tasty fun night hosted by Chef Zee Shami from Zee the Cook Culinary Studio in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.  Zee will be making Oreo Cake Pops live via Zoom.  The entire family is encouraged to try their hand at preparing the cake pops along with Ms. Shami during the program – questions and comments will be welcome.  The list of ingredients for Zee’s Oreo Cake Pops will be available on the Library website when you register at https://dexter.lib.mi.us/events/a-night-of-family-baking-with-zee-the-cook/.  A Zoom Meeting link will be sent to you prior to the program.

Puzzles and Games Craft Kits
Puzzle and Game craft kits for grades K through 5 will be available for curbside pick-up from November 5 to November 11.  Call from the Library parking lot and we’ll deliver them to our outside table.  Registration is required on our website beginning Monday, October 19.

Cricut® for Beginners
Join us for a repeat of this popular virtual program as we talk about the basic functions of a Cricut® machine and discuss which tools and materials are worth investing in.  A demonstration will be provided and samples of projects will be shared.  Time will be available at the end of the presentation for participants’ questions.  Recommended for grades 6 through adult. Registration is required at https://dexter.lib.mi.us/events/cricut-for-beginners-2/

What We’re Reading
Kids in grades 3 through 6 are invited to join us on our facebook page where we will share what we have been reading and highlight new books in our collection that they may want to check out.  This month’s theme is: Graphic Novels.

Pokemon Drawing Class
Join this fun, virtual art class as artist Keith McGuire teaches us how to draw a variety of Pokemon characters using basic shapes and easy-to-follow instructions.  Time will be available for participants to ask questions and share their work.  All you need is your own paper and pencil.
