The Dexter girls’ varsity swimming and diving team knocked off Chelsea on Oct. 22 to finish a somewhat shortened season undefeated in dual meets. The victory also clinched at least a share of the program’s 23rd consecutive SEC title.
The Dreadnaughts go for the other half this Friday and Saturday at the SEC White Championship meet.
Dexter opened the meet against the rival Bulldogs with a victory in the medley relay. The team of Charlotte Schultz, Emma Sortor, Delaney Parker and Hailee Waters swam a first-place time of 1:55.58.
The team of Alexis TerBush, Lily Witte, Natalie Koenn and Holly Durrand touched second in 2:01.78.
The Dreadnaughts took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle: Maddy Matos was first (2:06.41), Gwen Tatara second (2:15.53) and Alex Seidleck third (2:30.19).
In the 200 IM, Lauren Witte touched first in 2:18.78 with Laura Walton third (2:34.36).
Lily Witte won the 50 free in 26.72 to lead a clean sweep for Dexter. Durand was second (26.76) and Marea Balcom took third (27.26).
Speaking of sweeps, Dexter did exactly that in diving. Lily Witte was first with 294.35 points with Elysa Grossman second (219.60) and Vivian Kinnard third (218.95). Taylor Onsted was fifth with 132.80 points.
The sweeps continued in the butterfly. Sorter took first (1:03.79), Isa Reyes second (1:05.21) and Theresa Rutz third (1:07.98). And again in the 100 free with Durand first (57.67), Balcom second (57.98) and Matos third (58.59).
In the 500 free, Walton took second in 5:46.74 with Elizabeth Higgins third (6:01.61) and Elizabeth Young fourth (6:15.05).
The team of Rutz, Dani Schulz, Angela Castle and Hailee Waters took first in the 200 free in 1:49.16.
Schultz won the backstroke in 1:00.77 with Lauren Witte second (1:02.38) and Alexis TerBush third (1:07.33).
Delaney Parker was second in the breaststroke in 1:15.41 followed by teammates Natalie Koenn (1:18.61) and Reyes (1:21.61).
Dexter ended the meet the same way it began – with a one-two finish in a relay. The team of Schultz, Waters, Matos and Balcom took first in the 400 free relay in 3:51.72. The team of Lauren Witte, Tatara, Sortor and Rutz touched second in 4:09.50.
Earlier in the week, Dexter defeated South Lyon 129-57. In that meet, Schultz earned two new individual state cuts in the 200 IM and the 500 free.
