Food Gatherers: Rockin’ for the Hungry Launches Virtually on Giving Tuesday

Food Gatherers, Ann Arbor’s 107one, and Kroger will join forces from Dec. 1 – Dec. 5 at Rockin’ for the Hungry, a virtual fund drive to help alleviate hunger in Washtenaw County.

This holiday season, many residents of Washtenaw County won’t have enough to eat, some for the first time in their lives, and they will turn to local food pantries for help. During the 2020 Rockin’ for the Hungry fund drive, community members can join Food Gatherers and ann arbor’s 107one to virtually raise the funds for 30,000 emergency food boxes to help fill our neighbors’ plates. Gifts made during Rockin’ will be matched 1:1 thanks to generous community members including the Harold & Kay Peplau Family Fund and the estate of Irene Fast.

“While Rockin’ may look different this year, one thing remains the same, no one in our community should go hungry,” said Eileen Spring, President and CEO of Food Gatherers. “The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased food insecurity in our community and many of our neighbors are facing hunger for the first time. When you make a gift during Rockin’, you will support our county-wide network of 170 partner programs and agencies distributing food to anyone who needs it.”

Launching on Giving Tuesday, ann arbor’s 107one radio personalities will be hosting the virtual event
during a five-day broadcast, Tuesday, December 1st – Saturday, December 5th, 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Community members can join by tuning in to 107.1 FM to hear interviews with community leaders and
partners, updates, and donor sponsored power hours.
