From the Dexter Community Fund
Dan Chapman has lived a life of service – serving his country in the Air Force, his patients, and the Dexter community.
So, it was without hesitation that Dan has supported the Dexter Community Fund since its inception in 2014.
Dan’s roots run deep in Dexter. He and his late wife, Linda, settled in Dexter in the mid-1970s and raised their two boys here. Linda taught Spanish and social studies in Dexter Schools including a popular Living through History class. She was also a longtime member of the Dexter District Library Board.
Dan, a pediatrician, was a founding partner of Child Health Associates, and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. Since his retirement, Dan has continued to serve the community. He served for 4 years on the Dexter Board of Education and has served for 18 years on the Dexter Senior Center board.
We sat down and spoke to Dan about his commitment to the Dexter Community Fund.
Why do you support the Dexter Community Fund?
“Many people are into a second home or a boat. That’s not me. I have strong beliefs regarding charitable donations that are local, so I can see what they are doing with it. I am confident that the Dexter Community Fund is well managed. Only investment interest and growth in the original donation are used for community gifts, leaving the original donation to continue to grow for decades. Donations are tax deductible, and this offers another benefit to donors.”
How does the Dexter Community Fund benefit the community?
“I can watch the things they do with our donations and how the Dexter community benefits. It is very gratifying to see how funds are invested in needed areas.”
Why would you encourage others to contribute to the Dexter Community Fund?
“You can watch the Dexter Community Fund grow and invest in the community. I hope that those who live in Dexter will realize that there are good things you can do in the community by investing in the Dexter Community Fund.”
