The Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team took part in a quad-meet on Saturdayin Fenton and by all accounts, the Dreadnaughts came away with some fast times, strong performances and three wins. Dexter defeated host Fenton 91-83, topped always strong Birmingham Brother Rice 97-84 and dunked Mason 131-22.
Among the many highlights: Dexter’s Clayton Kinnard set a Fenton pool record in the IM; Leo Varitek got his state cut in the 200 free; and Adam Hauser earned his first-ever state cut in the 500 free. Dexter’s medley relay team and 400 free relay teams also qualified for the state meet.
Let’s jump in and take a closer look at how Dexter did on Saturday.
The foursome of Stuart Bovich, Kinnard, Matthew Resende and Hauser took second place with a time of 1 minute, 41.04 seconds. The team of Adam Bergen, Jack Potsos, Otto Krueger and Joe Sharon took fifth in 1:59.84.
Varitek earned his state-cut time in the 200 free with a second-place time of 1:48.15. Dylan O’Connor was fifth in 1:59.68 and Grady Wheeler took eighth in 2:09.53.
The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the IM with Kinnard first (1:55.80) and Hauser second (2:06.39). Krueger was fifth in 2:26.04.
In the 50 free, Resende took fifth in 23.61 seconds with Lucas Greatorex seventh (24.21) and Tristan Lorincz eighth (24.84).
Cole Warren won the diving with 244.55 points.
Kinnard took his second individual first place when he won the fly in 52.48. Resende was fifth (57.81) and Bovich was sixth (58.50).
Greatorex was fourth (53.43) in the 100 free for Dexter. O’Connor was sixth (55.95), Potsos was seventh (58.32) and Wheeler touched eighth (58.33).
In the 500 free, Hauser finished third with his state-cut time of 4:59.84. Varitek was fourth in 5:03.49 and Travis Fitch ninth in 6:10.93.
The Dexter foursome of Resende, Lorincz, Greatorex and Varitek took second in 1:36.43. The team of Potsos, O’Connor, Wheeler and Fitch was fourth in 1:47.02.
In the backstroke, Bovich touched third in 57.33 for the Dreads. Bergen was sixth (1:05.57) and Krueger was seventh (1:06.01).
Potsos was fifth (1:19.79) and Lorincz was sixth (1:20.98) in the breaststroke for Dexter.
The Dexter team of Varitek, Hauser, Bovich and Kinnard took third in the 400 free relay in 3:24.82. The team of Greatorex, O’Connor, Wheeler and Lorincz was fourth in 3:53.94.
The Dreadnaughts will host Tecumseh in an SEC White dual-meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Wylie Pool.
