Boys Basketball: Colin Parachek, Aidan Dexter lead Dreadnaughts over Adrian

The Dexter boys’ basketball team had huge games from Colin Parachek and Aidan Dexter on Thursday night as the Dreadnaughts knocked off visiting Adrian 72-57 to even their record at 2-2 on the young season.

Parachek scored at least four points in every quarter and finished with a team-high 24 points. The senior scored nine points in the second quarter including a triple and 4-4 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and had three steals.

In his pre-season description of Aidan Dexter, Coach Jason Rushton said his senior guard “has the potential to change the game with his ability to score.” He proved that on Thursday with five triples, including three in the second quarter, and finished with 17 points.

Aidan Dexter also scored 14 points in the recent win over Bedford.

Evan Haroldson also reached double figures. The sophomore scored eight of his 11 points in the third quarter. Junior Cal Bavineau finished with eight points and Ty Rychener scored six for the Dreads.

“It was a good league win for us against an always dangerous Adrian team,” Rushton said. “We were without some size (Thursday), missing our senior 6-9 center, Sam Sterlitz. But other guys stepped in and stepped up, so this was a good team win.”

The Maples were led by Joey Francis, who scored 24 points.

“I thought we did a good job containing (Francis) in the first half, but then he started finding his spots in the second half,” Rushton said.

The Dreadnaughts got the offense rolling right away and took a 20-10 first-quarter lead. Logan Woodring scored eight of Adrian’s 10 first-quarter points and finished with 16.

Dexter scored 22 points in the second quarter to take a 42-27 lead into halftime. They outscored the Maples 19-17 in the third quarter to take a 61-44 lead into the final quarter.

Dexter heads to Lake Orion on Saturday for a non-league game.
