The Dexter girls’ basketball team ran into a strong Jackson club on Thursday night and while the Dreadnaughts battled and never backed down, they couldn’t recover despite scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter. The Vikings held off Dexter’s late comeback attempt for a 50-42 win in an SEC White Division clash at Jackson.
The Dreadnaughts managed just 13 points in the second and third quarters.
Jackson took a 13-12 lead after the first quarter. The hosts outscored the Dreadnaughts 10-7 in the second quarter to take a 23-19 halftime lead.
The Vikings increased their lead to 34-25 after three quarters and scored 16 points in the final quarter to hold off the Dreadnaughts.
Alayna Babut had a big game for Dexter. The senior had a team-high 15 points including a triple in the first quarter and six points in the fourth quarter. But she was the only Dreadnaught to reach double figures.
Liv Mellifont had a triple in the fourth quarter and scored eight points. Kayla Rivers had two triples in the first half and finished with seven points. Sydney Pnacek knocked down a couple threes in the fourth quarter and finished with six points. Shannon Schoch had four points and Maddi Valentine finished with two.
Dexter plays at Pinckney on Monday in another SEC matchup.
