Boys Swimming: Dreadnaughts top Pinckney to lock up at least a share of SEC title

After a very brief and only visit this year to the loss column, the Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team returned to familiar waters on Tuesday with a 118-67 win over Pinckney in an SEC White Division dual-meet.

The Dreadnaughts finish the dual-meet portion of the season with a 10-1 record with the only loss coming on Saturday at Skyline. With the victory, the Dreadnaughts locked up at least a share of the league title.

Dexter will host the SEC league meet on March 12-13. The state finals are March 26-27.

Dexter opened the dual-meet with a victory in the medley relay. The team of Stuart Bovich, Clayton Kinnard, Matthew Resende and Zach Norris touched first in 1 minute, 41.79 seconds.

Leo Varitek took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.58. Joe Sharon was fourth the Dreads in 2:01.92.

Kinnard won the 200 IM in 1:55.85 with teammate Adam Hauser second in 2:07.40.

Norris sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.95 seconds. Resende took third in 23.91.

Cole Warren won the diving with 292.75 points.

Dexter took the top three spots in the 100 butterfly. Resende took first (58.25), Bovich was second (1:00.65) and Dylan O’Connor finished third (1:01.41).

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the 100 free with Norris first (49.34) and Varitek second (49.81).

Hauser was second (5:04.77) and Sharon third (5:26.10) in the 500 free.

The Dexter 200 free relay team of Norris, Tristan Lorincz, Varitek and Hauser was first in 1:33.95.

The Dreadnaughts took the top three spots in the backstroke. Bovich won the race in 59.73 with Lucas Greatorex second (1:02.71) and Adam Bergen third (1:05.50).

Kinnard won his second individual race of the meet when he touched first in the breaststroke with a time of 59.00. Jack Potsos was fourth (1:13.86) for Dexter.

In the 400 free relay, the Dexter team of Varitek, Hauser, Resende and Kinnard took first in 3:23.39.
