The Dexter boys’ basketball team took a 10-point lead into halftime and then blew it open with a huge third quarter and cruised to a 62-36 victory Saturday over Jackson.
“Our defense was solid all night and our offense really came alive to start the third quarter,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “We weren’t very happy heading into the locker room at halftime after giving up three straight layups, so we’re pleased with the response.”
The Dreadnaughts led 15-6 after the first quarter but only outscored Jackson 11-10 in the second quarter – thanks to those three layups. But Dexter still led 26-16 at halftime.
The Dreadnaughts started the third quarter with a big run and outscored the visitors 24-12 to take a commanding 50-28 lead into the final period.
Dexter outscored Jackson 12-8 in the final quarter.
Sophomore Evan Haroldson made 5 of 10 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points. Senior Colin Parachek had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in another all-around strong performance.
Aidan Dexter made 4 of 5 triples and finished with 12 points. Cal Bavineau had eight points and eight assists and Sam Sterlitz was great defensively with eight rebounds and three blocks.
The two teams meet again on Tuesday when the Dreads visit Jackson. Dexter also hosts Tecumseh on Friday.
