Dexter senior Livvy Mellifont blasted a solo home run in the first inning and pitcher Sam Sutton did the rest in the Dreadnaughts’ 1-0 softball victory over Saline on Friday.
Sutton was perfect from the circle as she tossed a no-hitter against the Hornets and had nine strikeouts without a walk. She threw 84 pitches over the seven innings.
Mellifont’s home run was the only hit for the Dreadnaughts as the pitcher’s duel took center stage. Saline’s Walker had 12 strikeouts without a walk.
The Hornets were perfect in the field behind their ace while Dexter committed just one error on the day.
Game two
The second game was a slugfest as the bats came alive on both sides of the diamond. Dexter racked up 19 hits and scored 10 runs over the first four innings in a 10-7 win over the Hornets. Saline had nine hits and scored three in the fifth and two in the seventh before the rally came to an end.
Kylee Niswonger, Emma Sortor and Camryn Chase all had three hits for the Dreads. Mellifont (three RBI), Sutton (home run), Brenna Cassidy and Maddy Thompson each collected two hits apiece in the win.
Paige Sayler allowed nine hits and two walks with nine strikeouts to earn the win for Dexter.
