The Dexter offense was smacking around eight hits and putting 12 runs on the board, Avery Berkebile was stealing the show on the mound for the Dreadnaughts. The right-hander not only kept host Jackson off the scoreboard but he threw a no-hitter in Dexter’s 12-0 win on Saturday in an SEC matchup.
Berkebile, a senior, tossed 94 pitches over seven innings and allowed just two walks with seven strikeouts and NO hits.
Dexter’s offense had their standout pitcher’s back, scoring two runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the third to take a comfortable 8-0 lead after three innings. They added a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Eight different players recorded hits for the Dreadnaughts. Braeden Fuson had two RBI. Cole Arnedt and Davis Bennett each scored twice. Evan Krolewski had a double, run scored and an RBI.
Dexter scored 13 runs in the third inning to win the second game 18-0 in a game that lasted only three innings because of the mercy rule. Dexter had 10 hits to just two for Jackson.
Payton Hendricks (two RBI), Davis Bennett (two runs) and Wyatt Novara (three RBI) all had two hits for the Dreadnaughts. Fuson, Cam Rosen, Brennan Parachek and Josh Sharp all scored twice in the win.
The two teams met again on Tuesday with similar results. Host Dexter scored six runs in the first and four more in the second for a 14-0 win that went five innings.
Six Dexter batters recorded hits. Zach Gullekson had two RBI. Krolewski and Max Bielas each scored three times Bennett and Derrick Nelson each scored twice in the victory.
Dexter plays at Pioneer on Saturday.
