Softball: Dreadnaughts no-hit Huron in BOTH games of a double-header

The Dexter softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a pair of easy wins over Ann Arbor Huron on Wednesday that included TWO no-hitters. The Dreadnaughts won the first game 19-0 and took the nightcap 24-1 as the River Rats failed to get a hit in either SEC crossover game.

Both games were called because of the 10-run mercy rule.

In the first game, Paige Sayler went three innings and seven of the nine outs came via the strikeout. She did allow two walks but no hits or runs.

Every Dexter player to step into the batter’s box had at least one hit – almost as impressive as the no-hitter.

Leadoff hitter Kylee Niswonger did plenty of hitting. The senior was 4-for-4 and scored all four times and had two RBI. Sam Sutton (five RBI) and Brenna Cassidy (three RBI) each had three hits. Ella Mitchell (two runs), Camryn Chase (three RBI, two runs), Maddy Thompson (two RBI, two runs), Hannah Marsik (three runs, two RBI), and Lillie Robeson (three runs) all had two hits for the Dreadaughts, who had 21 hits in the win.

The second game was more of the same.

Dexter scored eight runs in the first, nine in the second and seven more in the third.

Cassidy tossed the no-no in the second game. She had four strikeouts with one walk and one run but no hits over three innings.

The offensive numbers were again off the charts. Robeson moved up to the leadoff spot and delivered a 4-for-4 performance with four runs and four RBI in a four-bulous performance. Six Dexter players had three hits apiece: Jenna Wagenschutz (three RBI); Cassidy (three RBI); Sayler (three RBI); Mitchell (three runs, two RBI); Chase (FIVE RBI); and Marsik (three runs).

Thompson was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Emma Sortor had a hit, walk and three runs scored.

Dexter hosts Adrian for two on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
