Baseball: Dexter sweeps Adrian in SEC doubleheader

The Dexter baseball team swept its second doubleheader in the last three days on Monday as the Dreadnaughts took a pair from visiting Adrian. After taking two from Pioneer on Saturday, Dexter won a competitive game 3-1 and then cruised to an 11-1 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Adrian scored a run in the top of the first that Dexter equaled in the bottom of the frame. The Dreads took a 2-1 lead in the third and added a run in the six and finished with five hits and no errors.

Adrian had three hits and one error in the loss.

Shay Ohtonen was impressive on the mound for the Dreadnaughts. He had five strikeouts, and allowed just three hits and two walks in six innings of work. Ethan Hochendoner struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save.

Cole Arnedt had a hit and the only RBI for Dexter. Evan Krolewski had a double.

Dexter scored six runs in the second and never looked back in an 11-1 win in the nightcap. The Dreadnaughts had eight hits while three Dexter pitchers limited the Maples to just one hit.

Hochendoner fanned six in just three innings of work while Joey Tessmer had four in two innings and Josh Sharp struck out the side in his inning of work.

Eight different players had hits for the Dreads. Joey Tessmer had a double with two RBI. Krolewski had another double. Sharp, Max Bielas and Brian Matthews each had two runs scored in the win.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday in Adrian.
