Softball: Dexter records third and fourth consecutive no-hitters in sweep of Adrian

The Dexter pitching staff continues to pitch to perfection as the Dreadnaughts threw TWO no-hitters on Monday in a double-header sweep of visiting Adrian in an SEC White Division softball doubleheader.

In the last five games, the Dexter pitching staff has allowed just one run and one hit while tossing no-hitters in the last four games.

Dexter improved to 17-6 overall with an 11-0 win in the opener and a 10-0 victory in the nightcap over the Maples.

Brenna Cassidy returned to the circle for the first time after throwing a no-hitter on Wednesday against Ann Arbor Huron. She was equal to the task, tossing her second straight no-hitter with eight strikeouts and just two walks in five innings of work.

The Dexter offense had no trouble putting bat on ball. The Dreadnaughts pounded out nine hits led by Sam Sutton, who hit a home run, drove in two runs and walked twice. Paige Sayler hit a double with two RBI; Cassidy was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Kylee Niswonger had a hit and two walks; Lillie Robeson had a hit and scored twice; Maddy Thompson had a hit with two RBI and two runs; Camryn Chase had a hit and a run scored; and Ella Mitchell had a hit and an RBI.

Dexter scored six in the second inning and four more in the fourth.

In the nightcap, the Dreadnaughts scored four in the first and two more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. They added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game with 10 runs and 14 hits.

Sayler tossed the no-hitter in the second game. She went all six innings and struck out 17 batters in a dominating performance for the Dreadnaughts. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Sayler also hit a home run and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Robeson and Mitchell also had big games at the plate. Robeson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Mitchell was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Jenna Wagenschutz was 2-for-4 with two runs; Maddy Thompson had a double and two RBI; and Cassidy had a triple and scored twice.

Dexter will play at Chelsea on Thursday.
