Tennis: Dexter serves up D-2 Regional title with dominating performance

The Dexter tennis team rolled into Regionals this week and served up a first-place finish to advance to the State Finals. The Dreadnaughts scored 30 points to finish first at the Division 2 Regional 11 tournament held at South Lyon High School on Wednesday.

In dominating fashion, Dexter took first place in all four singles events and two of the four doubles events. They took second in the other two doubles events as Dexter reached the finals in all eight flights – yeah, impressive.

Holly and South Lyon East tied for second with 13 points followed by Swartz Creek and Walled Lake Western with 12 points each. South Lyon finished with eight points followed by Fenton (six), Pinckney (four) and Kettering (two).

The D-2 State Finals will be held on June 4-5 at the Midland Tennis Center and Midland Dow.

At No. 1 singles, Dexter’s Lindsey Wiczorek defeated Walled Lake Western’s Samantha Torres 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 in the championship match.

Dexter’s Tara Lessnau defeated South Lyon East’s Natalie Restuccia 6-1, 6-1 in the finals at two singles.

At three singles, Dexter’s Avery Goodrich won her finals match 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 over Holly’s Lauren Lesch.

Dexter’s Emma Hodder defeated Walled Lake Western’s Madi Hamlin 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the finals at four singles.

Dexter’s No. 1 doubles team of Anya Johansen and Charlotte Bruderly took second after falling to Holly in the finals. The team won a big tie-breaker (6-3, 7-6 (6) over Walled Lake Western to reach the finals.

Dexter’s No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Penrose and Chloe Sprague took second after falling 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (6) in a thrilling championship match with Swartz Creek.

The duo of Averi Rose and Maria DeMerell took first at three doubles after knocking off Holly 6-4, 6-3 in the championship match.
At four doubles, Dexter’s duo of Sefina Patterson and Lia DeMerell defeated Fenton 6-1, 6-1 in the finals to take first place.
