Baseball: Dexter falls to Howell in District championship game

Give the Dreadnaughts credit – they didn’t go easily.

After Howell scored four runs in the first inning of Saturday’s District championship game, Dexter scored three in the bottom of the second to get right back in the game. But Howell would answer with two in the third, and after adding a run in fourth, scored three in the sixth.

Dexter scored two in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t get any closer and fell 10-5 in the District finals. Dexter finishes the season with a 25-9-2 record.

The Dreadnaughts advanced to the championship game with a 5-1 win over Hartland earlier in the day while Howell knocked off Brighton 5-4 in the other semifinal.

In the finals, Howell had 11 hits and two errors. Dexter had five hits and one error.

The Dreadnaughts threw four pitchers at Howell. Cam Rosen started and gave up seven hits and seven runs in four innings. Ethan Hochendoner, Shay Ohtonen and Joey Tessmer all pitched in relief.

Rosen was 2-for-3 and Brennan Parachek hit a home run. Evan Krolewski and Cole Arnedt also had hits.

In the semifinal game, Dexter scored three in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Hartland’s only run came in the fifth.

Parachek had 11 strikeouts in 6.2 innings while walking four and allowing just three hits and one run.

Davis Bennett was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI; Rosen had a double and two RBI; Braeden Fuson had a hit and an RBI; Krolewski had a hit, walk and run scored; and Cole Arnedt had a hit, walk and run scored.
