Fighting Alzheimer’s: David E. Rutledge Charity Golf Outing is Sept. 13 at Eagle Crest

The David E. Rutledge Charity Golf Outing, presented by US Ecology and Absopure, is set to be back in-person on Monday, Sept. 13, at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti. Chairing the event since its inception in 1996 is former State Representative David Rutledge, who began the event to honor his mother, and help find a cure.

“We’re thrilled to be back with an in-person event this year,” Rutledge says. “Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease — one that took my mom from a very vibrant woman to a person unable to recognize her own family. This event helps provide generous financial assistance for critical dementia care, family support and research through the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter. We need to do more now to help families navigate this debilitating disease.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association 2021 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and more than 11 million family and friends provide 15.3 billion hours of unpaid care to those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Last year, that care had an estimated economic value of nearly $257 billion.

The event — one of the longest-running golf outings in Southeastern Michigan — has raised more than $1 million since its inception in 1996 for Alzheimer’s care, research, and the support of families who have loved ones dealing with dementia.

“We’re very grateful to David and all those involved with the David E. Rutledge Charity Golf Outing for consistently raising awareness and support of Alzheimer’s and all other dementia,” says Jennifer Lepard, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter. “This outing helps shine a light on this disease and raises crucial funds to help Michigan families.”

The event will open at 7:30  a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. It includes lunch, golfing, a DJ and a helicopter ball drop. Registration is $250 per golfer and can be secured by calling 734.548.9085 or visiting bit.ly/rutledge2021.
