Around Town: New city hall update; wanted – assistant to the city manager; more

City Hall Update
The City is excited to announce that on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, the City of Dexter closed on property located at 3515 Broad St. for a new City Hall location. The property, formerly owned by MedHub, is located at the corner of Broad St. and Huron St. Over the coming months, the City will be working through the process of preparing the building for the relocation.


Job Opening
The City of Dexter is seeking a full-time Assistant to the City Manager to be a part of the City’s Administrative Team. Specific responsibilities include acting as the staff liaison to various boards and commissions; grant writing; elections administration; website maintenance; and purchasing. This position will also engage in special projects and provide support to all City departments. Some work may be required outside of normal business hours. Street Tree Planting Program
Residents interested in having a tree planted in their lawn extension (generally the area between the sidewalk and the road) can participate in the City’s Tree Planting Program. Ping Pong Table Survey
The City of Dexter’s Parks and Recreation Commission has been approached regarding a proposal to install two public ping-pong (table tennis) tables in a City park. The Commission has developed a survey to receive public feedback regarding the proposal, including the demand for ping-pong tables, and potential locations. MSHDA/DTE Assistance Meeting Invitation
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and DTE Energy are co-hosting a virtual discussion from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, centering on housing and energy assistance. MSHDA representatives will share information on the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program, housing initiatives for vulnerable Michiganders, the plans for COVID relief program intended for those who own their homes and more. DTE leaders will provide information about several energy assistance and payment programs such as the Low-Income Self-Sufficiency program (LSP), the Home Heating Credit (HHC), the State Emergency Relief (SER) application and energy efficiency initiatives.

MSHDA and DTE representatives will be available until 6:30 p.m. for a live question-and-answer session after the presentations end. All Michiganders are welcome to attend the virtual event.
