If you were anywhere near Huron High School on Friday, Aug. 20, you would know that the Huron Relays — in its 19th year — were back after a long two-year break. The stands were filled for the annual event, and the roof was raised by the cheering of wildly excited swimmers from eight area teams: Huron, Pioneer, Skyline, Dexter, Saline, Brighton, Northville, and South Lyon East. Northville had a fine showing, running neck and neck with Pioneer for much of the meet.
But the defending state champions ended up touching first with 426 points followed by Northville (400); Saline (360); Brighton (320); Dexter (294); Skyline (286); South Lyon East (182) and Huron (176).
Congratulations to Pioneer for making D1 state cuts in all three relays, the 200 Medley, the 200 Free, and the 400 Free. Saline made their cuts in the 200 Free and the 400 Free, and Northville, in the 400 Free relay. The dive portion of the event was held earlier in the day, with Dexter’s Lily Witte, the defending state champion, winning handily.
The Huron River Rats were proud to host and kick off what is certain to be another amazing season for the strong SEC swim/dive teams.
