WASHTENAW COUNTY — Creative Washtenaw announces the awardees for Arts and Cultural Project Round 1 and the completed round for Professional & Organizational Development (POD) minigrants for the six counties in Region 9: Hillsdale, Jackson, Livingston, Lenawee, Monroe and Washtenaw. Creative Washtenaw administers this program on behalf of the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs (MCACA.) The minigrant applications are reviewed by a panel of artists, residents and organizational leaders from the region using criteria set by MCACA.
“The arts + creative industries continue to be devastated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.” said Deb Polich, representative for Creative Washtenaw. “MCACA’s minigrants awards are as important as ever as the help artists, creative workers and organizations recalibrate and prepare future programs.”
Region 9 Minigrants announced include:
- $11,150 for Round 1 Arts & Cultural Projects minigrants in support of the production, presentation and creation of arts and culture programs that promote public engagement, diversity, lifelong learning and help to enhance the livability of communities.
- $3,600 to Chelsea Area Festivals & Events, Washtenaw County
- $3,800 to Pioneer High School’s Theatre Guild Booster Club, Washtenaw County
- $3,750 to Visions Integrated Planning and Video Production, Livingston County
- $9,000 in Professional & Organizational Development Grants (POD) to assist nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, artists, cultural specialists, administrators and educators with opportunities that specifically improve their management and/or bring the individual or the organization to another level professionally or artistically.
- $1,500 to Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, Washtenaw County
- $1,350 to Cheryl Chidester, Livingston County
- $1,000 to Estar Cohen, Washtenaw County
- $1,300 to Jodie Randolph Dance, Washtenaw County
- $1,350 to Lenawee Symphony Orchestra Society, Lenawee County
- $1,000 to Vanessa Mayesky, Washtenaw County
- $1,500 to The Ark, Washtenaw County
Creative Washtenaw continues its FY22 minigrant cycle with two grant opportunities still open: Round 2 of the Arts & Project minigrants and two Michigan K-12 School opportunities: Arts Equipment & Supplies Grants and Arts & Culture Trek (Bus) grant. At its meeting today, MCACA’s Council approved $10,739,823 in arts and cultural grants to be distributed statewide. Washtenaw County will benefit from $1,039,928 in grants going to 35 arts and cultural organizations for operational support, capital improvements, special projects and arts in education programs. Washtenaw County had the third highest funding allocation in the state. Wayne County had the highest with $2,149,425 and Kent County had the second with $1,040,858.
As the Region 9 regranting administrator for MCACA, Creative Washtenaw received $68,500 of which $49,500 will be regranted and the balance for administrative expense.
