Girls Cross Country: Dreadnaughts run fourth at SEC Red Championships

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team continues to dominate as they prepare to defend their Division 1 State Title next month at MIS. The Pioneers took four of the top five places and finished with 28 points as they ran away with the SEC Red Division Championship last week at Hudson Mills Metropark.

Saline was a distant second with 51 points followed by Bedford (98), Dexter (101), Skyline (106), Huron (166), Monroe (192) and Lincoln (232).

Pioneer’s Rachel Forsyth ran first overall with a time of 17 minutes, 48.30 seconds. The sophomore, who as second at the D-1 State Finals last year as a freshman, has won six of her nine races this year and was second in the other three.

Senior Sarah Forsyth was third (18:18.80), junior Emily Cooper was fourth (18:36.50) and senior Cookie Baugh was fifth (18:47.2) for the mighty Pioneers. Sophomore Natalie Mello was 15th (19:27.20), senior Charlotte Batra was 21st (20:02.9) and sophomore Katie Hume was 26th (20:24.9).

The Dreadnaughts had two runners in the top 15 with senior Amanda McGill sixth in 18:51.50 and freshman Alena Blumberg 13th in 19:23.70.

Sophomore Kate Varitek was 25th (20:23.80), freshman Annabel O’Haver was 28th (20:33.40), senior Hannah McComas was 29th (20:38.30), senior Annissa Sisson was 33rd (20:59.40) and senior Ashley Mitchell was 44th (22:18.80) for the Dreadnaughts.

Skyline junior Caroline Vance cracked the top 10 with her ninth-place finish time of 18:59.30.

Junior Natalie Kessler was 17th (19:42.40), sophomore         Allison Mayer was 18th (19:49.10), junior Lydia Cocciolone was 30th (20:43.00), junior Annalisa DeGuzman was 32nd (20:55.80), freshman Ayla Balazer was 35th (21:16.10) and sophomore Celia Begosso was 38th (21:20.50) for the Eagles.

Huron freshman Lucinda Paliani led the River Rats with her 20th-place time of 19:59.70.

Sophomore Sonya Shelgikar was 22nd (20:05.20), junior Rachel Overgaard was 39th (21:47.60), freshman Kendra Bogan was 40th (21:47.80), junior Emily Ma was 45th (22:21.30), freshman Jaya Shah was 46th (22:22.20) and junior Mia Solomon was 48th (22:49.70) for Huron.
