Competitive Cheer: Dreadnaughts win first SEC invitational

The Dexter competitive cheer team had a strong showing during an SEC five-team meet on Jan. 5 at Tecumseh. The Dreadnaughts scored 210.5 points in round one, 196.08 points in round two and 268.4 points in round three for a total of 674.98 points.

Dexter finished first in the meet, defeating runner-up Chelsea (620.56), Tecumseh (619.6), Pinckney (571.1) and Adrian (480.04).

The meet was the first of three scheduled league meets.

“The hard work, dedication and determination really paid off at the competition,” said Dexter Head Coach Amy Philage. “I’m excited to see the girls continue to grow and improve throughout the rest of the season.”

Assistant Coach Allyson Canell said: “I am very proud of each athlete on this team. The hard work, determination and positive mindset is what puts these girls over the top. I can’t wait for the rest of the season with this awesome group of athletes.”

Dexter’s Middle School team finished with 362.7 points and finished a close second to Chelsea (394.4).

Dexter competed Saturday at the Brighton Invitational.
