Swimming: Huron edges Dexter in a close SEC Red dual-meet

Two exceptional swimming and diving programs jumped in the water on Thursday and the meet went to the final touch as Huron edged host Dexter 96.5-79.5 in an SEC Red Division dual-meet. It was the first dual-meet loss of the season for the Dreadnaughts, who won their first four meets of the season.

And the opening race set the tone for the whole meet. The Huron foursome of John Gao, Daniel Huang, Peter Fazekas and Alex Moskus won the opening medley relay in 1:43.18. Right behind them – and we mean RIGHT behind them – was Dexter’s team of Lucas Greatorex, Adam Hauser, Stuart Bovich and Matthew Resende took a CLOSE second in 1:43.50.

Huron’s team of Joe O’Neal, Kenneth Jiang, Kyle Smith and Jaden Martin was third in 1:49.73.

Huron’s Drew Lindstrom won the 200 free in 1:48.47. Dexter took the next three spots with Eric Smaby second (1:58.23), and tied for third was Grady Wheeler (1:59.03) and Jack Haidl (1:59.03).

Hauser won the 200 IM for Dexter with a time of 2:03.56. Huron took the next three spots with Gao (2:10.34), O’Neal (2:14.34) and Jiang (2:14.99).

In another very CLOSE race to the wall, Dexter’s Resende went 23.06 in the 50 free and edged Huron’s Fazekas, who went 23.08. Yeah, now that’s close. And taking a close third was Huron’s Moskus in 23.72. And too close to call was the race to fourth with both Dexter’s Greatorex and Huron’s Bryce Yung finishing in 24.32.

Dexter’s Cole Warren won diving with a score of 270.70 points.

Huron took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly with Fazekas first (57.51) and Huang second (58.33). Dexter’s Bovich was third in 59.15 and Huron’s Smith was fourth in 1:04.02.
