Girls Basketball: Dexter falls for only the second time this season; host Saline on Tuesday

The Dexter girls’ basketball team lost for only the second time this season when the Dreadnaughts fell 65-59 to a very strong Westfield Prep team on Thursday night.

Dexter fell behind 21-10 after the first quarter and trailed 41-25 at halftime. But the Dreadnaughts didn’t quit, fighting back with an impressive second half. Dexter outscored Westfield Prep 21-12 in the third quarter to get back in the game, trailing 53-46 after three quarters.

Dexter outscored Westfield Prep 13-12 in the final quarter.

The Dreadnaughts had three players in double figures.

Sydney Pnacek was 6 of 13 shooting (5 of 6 on three pointers) and finished with a team-high 20 points. The senior also had five rebounds, six assists and two blocks, playing her typical all-around solid game.

Maddi Valentine (4 rebounds, 2 steals) and Alena Blumberg (9 rebounds, 4 steals) each scored 13 for Dexter. Chloe Perry had nine points along with three assists and two steals.

Brianna Rodriguez had four points, four rebounds and two assists.

The Dreadnaughts jump back into SEC action with a tough game on Tuesday against visiting Saline.
