The Dexter boys’ basketball team took a narrow 38-36 lead into the fourth quarter on Friday night against Lincoln but couldn’t finish the deal as the Railsplitters outscored the Dreadnaughts 16-10 in the final period for a 52-48 win in an SEC matchup.
“It was a battle to see who had enough guys on both sides to finish this one,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “Between injuries and foul trouble for both teams, this was just a matter of will to decide this one. In the end, Lincoln had more and came away with the win.”
While there were plenty of positives in the game, it just wasn’t Dexter’s night.
“For us to compete in this league, we need to have more all-around play from all of our guys,” Rushton said. “We will continue to have high expectations and work to get more from everyone.”
Dexter outscored Lincoln 14-13 in the first quarter and led 25-24 at halftime. The Dreads outscored the Railsplitters 13-12 in the third quarter.
Brennan Parachek picked up three quick fouls to start the third quarter to give him four in the game which caused him to be a spectator early in the second half. Despite the foul trouble, Parachek led the Dreadnaughts with 12 points and added seven rebounds.
Ty Rychener had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Cal Bavineau had 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the Dreadnaughts.
Evan Haroldson did a nice job cleaning up on the glass defensively for Dexter and finished with nine rebounds and seven points.
Dexter looks to bounce back at Saline on Tuesday, home vs. Skyline on Friday and then a strong Summit Academy team on Saturday at Chelsea.
