Boys Basketball: Dreadnaughts fall to Summit Academy in non-league game

The Dexter boys’ basketball team is trying to get healthy. In the meantime, other players are stepping up and trying to fill some big shoes.

The Dreadnaughts have faced some tough completion the past week, including Saturday against Romulus Summit Academy at Chelsea. Summit started strong and kept their foot on the gas in a 52-38 win in a non-league game.

“We showed some fight against a very good team,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “We were definitely outsized, but I thought we handled that well and battled for three and a half quarters. We’ve learned a lot about ourselves this week and we’re looking forward to taking the next step in our growth as a team.”

The next step comes Tuesday on the road at Pioneer, another strong SEC Red Division opponent.

Summit led 13-2 in the first quarter and took a 23-12 lead into halftime. Summit outscored Dexter 15-9 in the third quarter and 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

Cal Bavineau (six assists) and Ty Rychener (four assists) each had 15 points for Dexter. Cole Arnedt added six points.
