City Offices will be closed on Monday, February 21, 2022 in observance of President’s Day.

Student Board Representative Recruitment

The City of Dexter is recruiting Student Board Representatives to: the Dexter City Council; Planning Commission; Parks and Recreation Commission; and Arts, Culture, and Heritage Committee. Two (2) Student Representatives will be appointed to each Board. The term of appointment is June 2022 – June 2023. These positions are designed to be mutually beneficial to both the students and the Committees or Commissions on which they serve. The students shall gain a tremendous learning experience about the workings of local government and the policy making process, while the Committees and Commissions benefit by having the perspectives of younger members of the community. Student representatives shall not have voting privileges, but may participate in all discussions.

Eligible applicants must live in the Dexter Community School District (preference will be given to City residents), and be in grades 9 – 12 (preference will be given to students entering grades 11 – 12). What You Love About Dexter Displays

Various pieces of artwork, including photographs, paintings, and drawings that highlight what residents love about Dexter continue to be on display in the Dexter District Library (3255 Alpine St.) and at Hearts and Flowers (8111 Main St.). Visit both locations to check out the displays! These displays are presented by the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Committee.

Temporary Sculpture Display Call for Entries

The “Dexter Art Gardens” is an annual outdoor sculpture exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Four (4) temporary outdoor sculptures will be juried and placed on temporary display with the City’s permanent collection for one (1) year: June 2022 – May 2023.  The selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan. Artists may submit up to three sculptures for consideration. Entries must be free-standing and durable for year-round outdoor display. Pieces must be able to be secured to a concrete pad. Each selected artist will receive a $900 stipend following installation.

Timeline for selection process:
  • February 24, 2022 – Deadline for application submissions
  • Week of March 28, 2022 – Artist notification of selection by email or phone
  • June 1 – June 15, 2022 – Artwork installation

Recreation Coordinator Job Opening

The City of Dexter is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and self-motivated Recreation Coordinator. This position will serve as the City’s Farmers Market Manager and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival Coordinator. The Recreation Coordinator is a part-time position. Hours are flexible, except candidates must be able to be present during Farmers Market hours (Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons, May – October), and during Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival events (August 15 – 20, 2022). Specific duties include: event planning, managing registration, programming, and recruitment for both the Dexter Farmers Market and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival.
