The Dexter track & field teams opened the season last week traveling to Lincoln High School to compete in the SEC Conference Invite. All 14 SEC schools were represented in the invitational to kick off the 2022 track & field season. No team scores are kept at this meet.
There were many highlights on both the boys and girls side of the track.
Boys
Cole Sheldon won both the pole vault (15 feet, 3 inches) and the long jump with a personal-best 20-7.5. Also in the pole vault, Clark Sheldon was fifth and Kaden Korcek finished seventh.
In the high jump, senior Sam Fitzpatrick was second with a jump of 5-10”, and Keaton Murphy-Walstad finished fourth at 5-6.
James Livingston was seventh in the shot put (42-3).
On the track, the sprints were led by Cole Cabana taking first in the Boys 60m with a personal-best time of 6.98 seconds, and Micah Davis placing third in the 200m with a personal-best mark of 23.06, his best time as well.
In the relays, Dexter was fifth in the 4×400 in 3:39.53 with the team of Jonny Adamczyk, Micah Davis, Kyle Sutton, and Alex Hoffman. The 4×800 relay team of Owen Ackerman, Brandon Anderson, Zach Sawin and Josh Lamb was seventh in 8:44.00.
Girls
The Dexter girls also featured a track full of impressive performances.
Leading the way was senior thrower Jamie Giese, who broke the Dexter school record in the shot put with a first-place toss of 37-7. The previous record of 36-8 had stood as the school record since 1995.
In the pole vault, Dexter placed four: Sophia Mettes won at 12-3, Ella Gasiorek tied for third at 9-0, Ellie Manly was fifth at 8-6 and Bethany Simons was sixth at 8-0.
On the track, Meghan McGill ran a personal-best and was seventh in the 400m at 1:06.17. The Dreads also placed two in the 800m run with Hannah McComas taking fifth at 2:32.91, and Amanda McGill finishing sixth at 2:37.73.
Annissa Sisson was fifth in the 3200 at 12:51.57.
Dexter placed three relay teams. The 4×200 was eighth with Brooklyn Whitehead, Gracie Burns, Hannah Berenson, Mikala Sposito finishing at 1:54.62; the 4×400 was eighth as well with Berenson, Burns, Meghan McGill, and Whitehead with a time of 4:31.02. And the 4×800 was sixth with a time of 10:38.10 with Amanda McGill, Hannah McComas, Annabel O’Haver, and Alena Blumberg.
