Soccer: Skyline tops Dexter 3-0 in SEC clash – See WLD photostory

The Skyline and Dexter girls’ soccer teams played a fairly even contest on Tuesday in an SEC clash but it was the Eagles that took advantage of their advantages to score a 3-0 win over the visiting Dreadnaughts.

The first half was a fairly even and played in the midfield with both teams making some runs. Skyline had an excellent chance early in the game but the Dexter goalie made a nice save.

Dexter goalie had no chance on Skyline’s first goal of the game. With 6:53 left in the first half, Brianna Ferguson came down the left side and lofted a perfect ball into the opposite corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

After a direct kick from about 30 yards out, Rori Deyer scored after a scramble in front of the Dexter net to make it 2-0 with 3:09 left in the first half.

Skyline led 2-0 at halftime.

Sophia Morgan scored on a corner kick, bending the ball in from the right side, with about 20 seconds remaining in the game.

It’s still very early in the season and both teams are finding their legs and trying to put things together. Both teams clearly have plenty of talent and are well-coached.

“We are getting better every game, which is all we can ask for,” said Skyline Coach Chris Morgan. “Our second half was a lot better than the first half, as our forwards were a little more dynamic, allowing our outside backs to get forward as well.”

Morgan is liking what he sees from his club.

“This is a hard-working team, and they strive to improve with every training and or game,” he said. “We are attempting to be more creative in our attack, and I feel that we are certainly showing signs of improvement.”

Dexter hosts Bedford at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Skyline plays at Monroe.
