The Dexter baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Bedford on a chilly Wednesday afternoon. Both games featured strong pitching and defense and runs were hard to come by.
Bedford won the first game 2-1 after scoring two runs in the second inning and making them hold up. Both teams managed just four hits and committed one error.
Cam Rosen recorded six strikeouts and just one walk in six innings for the Dreadnaughts.
Garrett Sharp had two hits and scored Dexter’s only run in the fifth inning. Braeden Fuson and Joey Tessmer (RBI) had the other Dexter hits.
In the second game, Dexter won 1-0 with the only run crossing the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Davis Bennett drove in Fuson to give Dexter 1-0 lead, and Ethan Hochendoner struck out Connor Laskey to finish off the game in the seventh.
The Dreadnaughts managed just four hits. Fuson, Payton Hendricks and AJ Vaughn had the other Dexter hits.
Pitching was the name of the game and the Dreadnaughts had two aces dealing all game long. Bedford managed just three hits. Wyatt Novara started for Dexter and went four innings, striking out eight. Hochendoner recorded four strikeouts in his three innings of work.
Dexter pitchers allowed only four walks in the game and the defense committed only one error.
The Dreadnaughts (4-2 on the year) will play a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Father Gabriel Richard at EMU.
