Arbor Hospice’s Spring Grief Support Series Offers Virtual and In-Person Groups

Arbor Hospice is continuing to offer grief support groups throughout the spring for community members experiencing the loss of a loved one. The ongoing sessions offer individuals the choice of in-person, virtual or hybrid meetings, depending on their comfort level and preferences.

Living On (in-person or virtual)

A series of ongoing groups focused on expressing feelings and experiences related to loss. In-person groups gather at the Arbor Hospice office located at 2366 Oak Valley Dr. in Ann Arbor.

Living On – Young Adults (virtual only)

An open, ongoing online monthly group for people in their 20s and 30s. Facilitated by Arbor Hospice grief counselors.

Living On – Young Adults Coffee Hour (virtual only)

Participants of Living On – Young Adults gather virtually with others in their 20s-30s who are also working their way through grief. Casual, open, and supportive. Bringing coffee, tea, breakfast, etc. is encouraged. Registration is required. Facilitated by Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan Grief Counselors.

Living On – Loss from COVID (virtual only)

A support group for people who have experienced a death of a loved one from COVID-19. This group meets monthly to discuss topics of grief and loss. Facilitated by Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan grief counselors.

Men Overcoming Loss – General (virtual only)

An online support group for men dealing with the death of a loved one.

  • First Tuesday of the month | 6-7:30 p.m.

Men Overcoming Loss – Grieving Dads (in-person or virtual)

An online support group for dads dealing with the death of a child. In-person groups gather at the Hospice of Michigan office located at 400 Perry Ave. in Big Rapids.

  • First Wednesday of the month | 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Men Overcoming Loss – Partner/Spouse (in-person or virtual)

An online support group for men dealing with the death of a partner or spouse. In-person groups gather at the Hospice of Michigan office located at 39531 Garfield Rd. in Clinton Twp.

  • Third Tuesday of the month | 6-7:30 p.m.

Grief After Dementia – Caregiver Support Group (virtual only)

For anyone who has lost someone to Alzheimer’s Disease or other type of dementia. In partnership with Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter.

  • Second Tuesday of the month | 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Social Mealtime Group – Working Age Dinner Group & Dinner Diners (in-person only)

Arbor Hospice offers two meal-centered social groups for individuals who have lost a spouse or partner and are interested in sharing a meal together. Each group meets monthly at a different restaurant in Ann Arbor.

  • Second Thursday of the month | 6-7:30pm
  • Fourth Thursday of the Month | 6-7:30 p.m.

Seminar – Grief 101 for Bereaved (virtual only)

This educational meeting provides attendees with important resources and information for those coping with the loss of a loved one. Grief 101 explores what is normal during the grief process, strategies for coping, suggestions for self-care and available community support. Registrations is required.

Loss of a Parent: Approaching Mother’s/Father’s Day (virtual only)

This program is designed to offer support to those grieving the death of a parent. Suggestions for how to cope with the grief of losing your parent will be discussed.

Shine On – Remembering Our Loved Ones Through Art (in-person only)

An in-person event where participants will create a keepsake candle holder at the Arbor Hospice office located at 2366 Oak Valley Dr. in Ann Arbor. Please register early. Space is limited.

“When a loved one dies, bereaved individuals may experience heartache, confusion and loneliness,” said Karen Monts, grief support services director for Arbor Hospice. “Arbor Hospice grief support managers work with individuals in group sessions to address those emotions and offer grief education for those experiencing a loss of a loved one.”
