When looking to buy or sell your house it’s important to know that both realtors and loan officers can be licensed in multiple states. For example, John Adams Mortgage has been licensed in Michigan since 1972 and became dual-licensed last year when the company added services in Florida.
“It really made sense for us because Michigan has a lot of people who vacation in Florida and purchase in Florida,” says Larry Bsharah, president of John Adams Mortgage. “We are very excited to be able to offer this service for people looking to make the trek down to Florida.”
Alex Nugent, a realtor with Real Estate One, says licensing in Florida is very similar to licensing in Michigan. But you just don’t fill out a form to become licensed in another state.
“You have to take an 80-hour class and have to pass a test from the class and then you have to pass the state broker test,” says Nugent, who has been dual-licensed for a little over a year. “You need to focus on having a system that works on all transactions with both the buy and sell side. You need to be organized and have a good team working with you. And most importantly, make sure you have a lender who up front does everything they need to do to allow for a quick transaction so your client doesn’t lose the house they want to buy.”
Joe Bigelman of John Adams Mortgage has been in the mortgage business for over 25 years and says the technology now available allows loan officers to work in multiple states. “It’s important to understand the market and what kind of properties are available and the technology allows us to do the mortgage application right here in Michigan.”
John Adams Mortgage can help their clients in Michigan finance a second home, investment property or new residence in Florida – or vice versa.
