United Way of Washtenaw County Receives $10,000 Grant from Comerica Bank

United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC) has been awarded $10,000 in grant funding from Comerica Bank to support the 2-1-1 helpline. The 2-1-1 helpline is a free service that connects community members with local resources of health and human services agencies right in their communities—quickly, easily, and confidentially.

The 2-1-1 helpline provides referrals to programs to assist with food, housing, financial assistance, utility assistance and more. Help is available 24/7. To find resources in a specific area, community members can call 2-1-1, text, live chat or search online to get connected. The online database has access to more than 27,000 different statewide programs and services.

The top 5 requests for help centered on: COVID-19 requests, rent payment assistance, electric service payment assistance, community shelters and COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing. Thousands of people call 2-1-1 each year and receive the resources and referrals they need.

“The United Way of Washtenaw County uplifts our communities by delivering critical resources to individuals and families throughout our region,” said Kris Kerns, Comerica Bank Regional President. “Their initiatives, such as the 2-1-1 program, identify challenges, reduce barriers and meet a wide range of needed services. We believe that supporting the United Way will help continue its mission to provide opportunities for everyone to meet their full potential.”  Comerica Bank is a longtime partner that also supports UWWC through a workplace giving campaign and our Power of the Purse event.
