Profile: Nick Doletzky is getting his kicks on the pitch and on the gridiron

Nick Doletzky is pulling double-duty this year.

The senior has added football to his already busy schedule and hopes to kick the Dreadnaughts into the win column, or to a league title or to the postseason or to a state championship – or all of the above would be nice.

“This year I am the kicker for our football team,” he says. “It’s great to be a part of the team, and hopefully I can make as much of an impact in the game as a kicker can do.”

At his other “job,” Doletzky certainly makes a huge impact in the game. He is one of the best soccer players, not only in Dexter, but the area – and that’s saying something considering all of the incredible soccer talent in and around Ann Arbor. He will certainly have an impact on the pitch.

“The goal for this year is to compete and win as many games as possible, and beat our rival Chelsea, which is always a goal from past years,” he says. “This year’s team is very close, and young which will help them in the future as well.”

The SEC Red is among the best leagues in the state and every game, from Pioneer to Huron to Skyline to Saline, is going to be a battle. But Dexter is right in that mix – as Tuesday’s 2-2 tie with Huron proved.

“To be successful in this league we need to play as a team, and put as much work in at practice so it will show in games,” said Doletzky. “We lost a lot of people from last year, but if we have great team chemistry, we will be on the right track.”

Dexter had a strong team last year and played in many exciting and close contests. There were plenty of highlights and successes along the way.

“Last season went well, although I think we fell a little short,” says Doletzky, who plays midfield this year for Dexter. “We had great games against great teams. My favorite moment from last year was when we came back to win against Chelsea 2-1 on Senior Night.”

Doletzky has two older brothers who both played soccer so he was introduced to the greatest game at a young age. “I started when I was 3 years old, and have been playing ever since,” he says. “What I like about soccer is the closer you are to your teammates, the better the team will be. Compared to most other sports, I feel like the whole team is involved with every play, so the team can celebrate, and fix mistakes together.”

Doletzky played club soccer every year up to his senior year, first playing with Dexter Soccer Club before moving to Legacy when he was in the fifth grade.

Nick, 17, is the son of Rob and Kathy Doletzky. He plans on going to college after high school and majoring in the computer field.

But now he’s enjoying getting his kicks on the soccer and football fields.
