Football: Dreadnaughts go to the air in easy 45-0 win over Lincoln

Dexter continues to prove that football – especially Dexter football – is a team game. On Friday night, the Lincoln defense focused on stopping All-State running back Cole Cabana so the Dreads simply “handed off” the ball to Reeves Taylor.

Taylor, a senior quarterback, tossed three first-half touchdowns to help lead Dexter to an easy 45-0 win over the visiting Railsplitters. Taylor completed 17 of 27 passes for 286 yards with the three TD passes and no interceptions.

Dexter improved to 4-0 on the season and have outscored opponents 172-35, and this coming week should only pad the numbers even more. The Dreadnaughts visit winless Pioneer on Friday night. The Pioneers lost Friday night 70-2 Skyline, a team Dexter defeated 59-8 in week two.

The Dreadnaughts’ schedule will get much tougher after Pioneer. Their final four games come against Huron (2-2), Monroe (2-2), Saline (4-0) and Chelsea (3-1).

Dexter led 24-0 at halftime and ran it up in the second half on the legs of Cabana, who finished the night with 68 yards rushing on 12 carries and two scores. Sophomore Connor Robeson had three carries for 20 yards and sophomore Grant Goodrich had a run for 14 yards.

But the Dreadnaughts won this game in the air. And Taylor did a good job of sharing the ball with his talented receiving group.

Senior wideout Joey Tessmer turned in another strong performance with five catches for 120 yards and two more scores (31 yards and 55 yards). Brennan Parachek had another big game for the Dreadnaughts. The senior had six catches for 100 yards and a score. Cabana had four catches for 38 yards, Micah Davis had a grab for 18 yards and senior Dan Delduca had a catch for 10 yards.

The defensive side of the ball also featured a team effort as the Dreadnaughts pitched its first shutout of the season. Senior linebacker Brendon Velerio led Dexter with 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack. Senior defensive end Brock Komaromi had 7 tackles including 2 tackles for a loss and a sack. Delduca, a senior linebacker, had 7 tackles and freshman linebacker Nathan Gersh had 6 tackles. Corey Baker and Xavier Cook each had 2 tackles for loss and Devon Emrick had a big fourth-down tackle for a loss.
