Girls Cross Country: Pioneer wins Jackson Invite, Dreads run sixth

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team crossed the finish line in first place at the Jackson Invitational on Saturday. Pioneer finished with 71 points, well ahead of runner-up Romeo (102) and Saline (107). Two other local teams finished in the top 10 with Dexter taking sixth (222) and Skyline seventh (236) in the 23-team Orange Division race.

Junior Emily Cooper led the Pioneers with her third-place finish time of 18:17.3. Two other Pioneers crossed the finish line among the top 15: junior Natalie Mello was 10th (18:44.9) and junior Lydia Bowman was 12th (19:01.3). Junior Sylvia Sanok Dufallo was 20th (19:26.3), junior Katie Hume was 26th (19:34.4), freshman Hana Boggess was 46th (20:00.5) and senior Allison Nutt was 82nd (20:46.5).

A pair of sophomores led the Dreadnaughts across the finish line. Sophomore Alena Blumberg finished sixth in 18:40.4 Annabel O’Haver was 17th in 19:14.4. Junior Kate Varitek was 53rd (20:09.1), sophomore Addison Bruckman was 64th (20:23.9), sophomore Olivia Shaieb was 86th (20:49.8), senior Antonia Bruckman was 104th (          21:19.7) and freshman Hannah Bougher was 108th (21:26.4).

Skyline senior Natalie Kessler led the Eagles with her seventh-place finish time of 18:41.8 while junior Allison Mayer finished 21st in 19:29.8. Senior Leah White was 42nd (19:54.4), senior Lydia Cocciolone was 63rd (20:21.3), junior Celia Begosso was 112th (21:34.1), senior Annalisa DeGuzman was 125th (21:55.6) and freshman Grace Hopkins was 140th (22:24.5).
