Swimming: Pioneer splashes past Dexter in SEC Red clash

The defending MHSAA Division 1 champion Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team welcomed formidable Dexter to town on Thursday night and swam off with another win. The Pioneers won the SEC Red matchup 139-47 to remain undefeated on the season.

Both teams turned in strong performances – let’s dive in and take a look.

Pioneer’s team of Stella Chapman, Ursula Ott, Sophia Guo and Lucy Mehraban won the opening medley relay in 1:46.53. The Pioneer foursome of Kate Van Ryn, Alexandra Hannah, Allison Yadmark and Meg Pinkerton took second in 1:56.30. Dexter’s team of Jillian Kinnard, Harper Brown, Lily Witte and Marea Balcom took third in 1:58.73.

Pioneer swept the 200 free with Yan Yee Adler touching first in 1:57.20, Amani Sanogo placing second in 2:05.82 and Ava Griffith third in 2:06.09. Dexter’s Delaney Parker was fourth (2:08.13).

Pioneer’s Reese Heidenreich won the 200 IM in 2:11.73 with teammate Bridgette Kamara taking second in 2:13.58. Kinnard was third (2:19.61) for Dexter.

Pioneer swept the 50 free with Mehraban first (23.92), Ott second (24.04) and Van Ryn third (24.45).

Dexter dominated the diving as the Dreadnaughts feature two of the best divers in the state. Witte took first with 293.70 points with teammate Vivian Kinnard second with 245.20 points. Pioneer’s Grace Daly was third with 190.45 points.

Pioneer’s Eva Woods won the butterfly in 1:00.20 with teammate Yadmark in second in 1:06.29. Dexter’s Parker was third in 1:06.83.

Pioneer swept the 100 free with Guo first (53.75), Van Ryn second (53.91) and Pinkerton third (54.64).

Chapman touched first in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.88. Mehraban was second (5:27.61) and Sanogo third (5:39.99) for the home team. Hannah was fourth (6:00.13) for Pioneer and Dexter’s Rebekah Murillo was fifth (6:01.18).

Pioneer’s team of Woods, Adler, Guo and Campbell won the 200 free relay in 1:42.13. Pioneer’s foursome of Van Ryn, Yadmark, Kamara and Sanogo took second in 1:44.33. Dexter’s team of Balcom, Parker, Jillian Kinnard and Diem Lee touched third in 1:50.23.

Chapman went 56.07 to win the 100 backstroke with Adler taking second in 1:03.16 for the Pioneers. Harper Brown was third (1:06.26) for Dexter.

In the breaststroke, Ott took first in 1:06.86 and Rachel Brewbaker was second in 1:18.73 for Pioneer. Dexter’s Grace McClellan was third in 1:23.56.

Pioneer’s team of Woods, Adler, Chapman and Ott won the 400 free relay in 3:38.85.
