All three Ann Arbor schools and the Dexter Dreadnaughts headed to the MHSAA Cross Country Division 1 Girls’ State Finals on Saturday at a windy and overcast Michigan International Speedway in the final race of the 2022 season.
Two of the teams – Pioneer and Skyline – finished in the top seven. Holland West Ottawa ran first with 97 points followed by Romeo (172) and the defending state champion Pioneers (196). Saline, another SEC Red team, ran fourth (201), Brighton was fifth (215) and Oxford sixth (255).

Skyline had an exceptional race as the Eagles landed seventh with 261 points, 10 better than Walled Lake Northern. Dexter crossed in 21st place with 517 points while Huron finished 24th with 550 points.
Holland West Ottawa’s Helen Sachs was first in 17 minutes, 18.74 seconds. Pioneer senior Emily Cooper capped off her incredible career with a sixth-place finish in 18:21.74. Dexter’s Alena Blumberg is just beginning her career and the sophomore finished 18th (18.44.69) in her second state finals appearance.
Skyline senior Natalie Kessler led the Eagles with a 24th place finish (18:52.52).
