Ice Fest

The annual Dexter Ice Fest will take place Saturday, January 21st, from 10am to 5pm in Monument Park in downtown Dexter. Ice Fest will feature over 80 ice sculptures placed around Monument Park, and 6 live demonstrations.
Community Garden Applications

The application for plots at the Community Garden is now available on the City’s website at https://files.dextermi.gov/Community/Community_Garden/2023_Community_Garden_Application.pdf. Please contact the Garden Coordinator (and Farmers Market Manager), Marianne Wendt, with questions regarding the program at farmersmarket@dextermi.gov.

Farmers Market Applications

The Dexter Farmers Market is accepting applications for this year’s farmers market season. The Dexter Farmers Market is located on Alpine Street between the Dexter District Library and Mill Creek Park North and is open between May and October, every Saturday from 8am to 1pm, and every Tuesday from 2pm to 6pm. Opening Day for the market will be Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival

Artist registration for the 2023 Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival is now open! Artists of all skill levels are invited to participate in the festival in both the professional/emerging painting competitions and the quick draw competition. Artists and members of the public who are interested in learning more can visit paintdexter.com for more information.

This year’s festival will be taking place Monday, August 14 to Saturday, August 19, 2023, with fun events and activities taking place all week-long!

Dexter Art Gardens Temporary Sculpture Display

The “Dexter Art Gardens” is an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Up to five (5) temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on temporary display along with the City’s permanent collection for one (1) year: June 2023 – May 2024. The selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in prominent locations throughout Dexter. Applications may be submitted via the online Call for Entries platform, CaFE at: https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=11335
. Submitting an application via the CaFE site is free. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, February 23, 2023. Artists will be notified in March regarding selections.

Student Representative Recruitment

The City of Dexter is recruiting Student Board Representatives to: the Dexter City Council; Planning Commission; Parks and Recreation Commission; and Arts, Culture, and Heritage Committee. Two (2) Student Representatives will be appointed to each Board. The term of appointment is June 2023 – June 2024. These positions are designed to be mutually beneficial to both the students and the Committees or Commissions on which they serve. The students shall gain a tremendous learning experience about the workings of local government and the policy making process, while the Committees and Commissions benefit by having the perspectives of younger members of the community. Student representatives shall not have voting privileges, but may participate in all discussions.

Eligible applicants must live in the Dexter Community School District (preference will be given to City residents), and be in grades 9 – 12 (preference will be given to students entering grades 11 – 12).
