Swimming: Dreadnaughts make a big splash at own invitational

The Dreadnaughts hosted the Dexter Swimming & Diving Invitational on Saturday at Wylie Pool and the home team had a splashing-ly good showing. The team lineup joining the Dreads included Canton, Chelsea, Milan, Tecumseh and Pinckney. There were no team scores kept. 

Dexter opened the meet with a victory in both medley relays. The junior/senior team of Lucas Greatorex, Grady Wheeler, Matthew Resende and Dylan O’Connor touched first with a time of 1 minute, 45.75 seconds. The freshman/sophomore team of Jude Smith, Chance McArtor, Steven Merz and Eric Smaby took first in 1:52.03.

O’Connor won the JR/SR 200 free in 1:53.76. Wheeler was third (1:58.76).

In the FR/SO 200 free race, Jack Haidl was second (1:56.04) and Dane Lee third (2:00.90).

Liam MacNeil won the FR/SO 200 IM race with a time of 2:15.89.

Greatorex was second in the JR/SR 50 free in 24.04. Smaby won the FR/SO 50 free in 23.68 with Smith taking third in 24.41.

Dexter’s Branden Anderson won the JR/SR diving with 174.35 points. Gernzon Herter was fourth (129.9) and Cole Darby fifth (99.25).

Merz took second in the FR/SO butterfly in 1:03.71.

Resende won the JR/SR 100 free in 51.28 with Greatorex third (52.51). In the FR/SO 100 free, Smaby won with a time of 52.60. McArtor was fifth (57.02).

Dexter’s FR/SO 200 free relay team of Smaby, MacNeil, Lee and Haidl won in 1:39.40.

In the JR/SR backstroke, Resende took second in 56.38. Travis Fitch was fifth (1:06.29). Smith took first in the FR/SO backstroke in 1:00.13. Merz was fifth (1:08.58). In the JR/SR breaststroke, Wheeler was second (1:11.43). McArtor won the FR/SO breaststroke in 1:12.55 with Quinn Christy fifth (1:18.46), Ethan Vince seventh (1:23.49) and Ben Alekseev eighth (1:24.67).

In the JR/SR 400 free relay, Dexter’s team of Greatorex, O’Connor, Fitch and Resende took second in 3:35.61. Dexter went one-two in the FR/SO 400 free relay. The team of Haidl, Lee, Smith and McArtor was first in 3:43.89. The team of MacNeil, Vince, Christy and Merz was second in 4:03.39.
