Girls Basketball: Dexter holds Pioneer to just one point in third quarter in 65-47 win

Dexter girls’ basketball teams don’t give up 17 points in a quarter very often but when they do, you can be sure it will be a subject of conversation. Pioneer dropped 17 on the Dreadnaughts in the second quarter on Friday night to take a 30-29 halftime lead.

At halftime, Dexter Coach Lauren Thompson certainly talked defense and the lack thereof in the first half. The Dreadnaughts got the message, holding Pioneer to just one point in the third quarter to take a 39-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

Both teams got offensive in the fourth quarter with Pioneer scoring 16 points to Dexter’s 26, including nine points from the free-throw line. The Dreadnaughts finished with a 65-47 win over the visiting Pioneers in a battle of SEC Red teams.

Alena Blumberg and Chloe Perry kept their big offensive seasons going with 22 points apiece for the Dreads. Blumberg knocked down four triples and scored nine in the fourth quarter while Perry made 8 of 11 free-throw attempts and also hit seven field goals.

Heidi Fuchs had eight points and Kendall Cabana had seven points, including a triple, for the Dreadnaughts.

Savannah Brewer led Pioneer with 16 points, including three triples in the game. Jordan Davis had 11 points and K’Dia Harris had nine points for the Pioneers.

Dexter hosts Bedford on Tuesday and Huron on Friday. Pioneer hosts Monroe on Tuesday and play at Bedford on Friday.
